Weekly AI ad reports: paste a fixed CSV or let the assistant pull live data?

Take a dental clinic that exports Google Ads data to CSV every Monday and pastes it into ChatGPT. By the time the answers come back the numbers are a few days old, so live access sounds like the obvious upgrade. I'm not sure it always is. Pasting forces you to decide which columns and date range matter, and that choice is where most of the useful thinking happens. With live access the assistant picks its own slices, and it'll happily hand back a dozen tables you never asked for.

My view is that live data pays off when you're diagnosing something, like a sudden CPA jump. For the routine weekly review, I'd stick with a fixed export with the same columns every time, so this week compares cleanly to last week. Curious whether others have found the answers stay sharp when the AI can query everything.

Agreed on the fixed export for the routine review. Even with identical columns, though, conversion lag can still skew the week-over-week comparison. A report pulled on Monday has fewer weekend conversions than one pulled the following Thursday, so this week can look better or worse for reasons that have nothing to do with performance. If the export always runs on the same weekday, the comparison holds. If it doesn't, use a fixed window that ends a few days back, like the seven days ending three days ago, so both weeks have had the same time to mature.

Google Ads credits conversions to the click date by default, so a Monday pull keeps picking up conversions from late-week clicks for days afterward. Segmenting by conversion date changes what the numbers mean, but the most recent days are incomplete either way, so you still need the lagged window.

I don't think the lag is mostly a click-date quirk. How long it lasts depends on the conversion window set on each action, and for a lot of click-through conversions that's 30 days by default. So a click from last Tuesday can still turn into a conversion weeks later. For a dental clinic, where the consultation decision takes a while, a Monday pull and a Thursday pull can look quite different, and no choice of segment fixes that.

Yes on the window, but it also means the lag never really ends for a Monday pull. Clicks from four weeks ago can still convert under a 30-day window. For a clinic, offline conversions are the bigger problem. If consultations get uploaded by hand or in a weekly batch, the lag follows your upload schedule, not the click. So before you trust a week-over-week comparison, check when those conversions actually land in the account.
