Consent banners can make organic reporting look worse than it is, and I think people often compare the wrong numbers. Say you run a content site with a reject-by-default banner and Consent Mode v2 on. A few weeks after rollout, GA4 organic sessions drop 25% and someone blames the SEO work. Before touching content, pull Search Console clicks for the same dates and set them against the same GA4 window. If clicks held and GA4 fell, the gap is mostly consent, not rankings.
The catch is that modeling only fills in conversions when there's enough volume, so on a low-traffic blog the modeled numbers can be thin or missing. My view is to trust GSC for whether people are finding you and treat GA4 organic as a floor. Has anyone measured how much of the gap modeling recovers on a site with real volume?
