A cookie banner can hide a big share of EU conversions, and Consent Mode v2 is meant to win some of that back through modeling. The catch is that the model only learns from users…
Say a store discontinued 300 products last quarter. The old URLs still pull a few organic clicks and some backlinks, so what do you do with them? The usual advice is to 301…
Every few months someone asks why GA4 shows 1,200 organic sessions while Search Console shows 1,800 clicks, and the thread turns into a fight over which tool is lying. Neither is.…
Plenty of agencies push server-side GTM on every site that runs paid traffic, and I'm not convinced it pays off below a certain size. Take a local service business with a…
Direct in GA4 is often just where broken tracking ends up. Take a dental clinic running Meta ads with no UTMs on the Stories links, sending patients a WhatsApp link from the…
Google restricted FAQ rich results to government and health sites back in 2023, so for most small sites FAQPage markup no longer gets the expanded snippet it used to. Some people…
Average position shows up in almost every SEO report, and hardly anyone can explain what it means. It's an average across every query a page appeared for, weighted by impressions.…
The old advice was to canonicalize pages 2, 3 and 4 back to page 1, but Google has said it can handle pagination on its own, so a lot of people now self-reference each page…
When someone asks if a site "passes Core Web Vitals," the first thing to pin down is which number they mean. Lab scores from PageSpeed Insights come from a synthetic test with one…
Take a furniture store with around 300 real products but about 4,000 indexable URLs once colour, size and price-sort filters multiply. Half the team wants noindex on the filter…
Plenty of teams use the average position in Search Console as their rank tracker, and I don't think it holds up well. It's weighted by impressions, so a page that shows at…
Say a lead gen site gets around 55% accept on its consent banner. GA4 will show conversions that look cleaner than that opt-in rate would suggest, because Consent Mode v2 models…
Say you inherit a site with a disavow file from 2019, several thousand lines long, and nobody on the team knows who added most of those domains. Google has said for years that…
Is average position in Search Console worth putting in a client report at all? It's an impression-weighted average across every query and location a page showed for, so a page…
Say a home services site has about 400 city-plus-service pages built from one template, and most of them get almost no impressions in Search Console. The "index everything and let…
Every few weeks someone asks why Search Console shows 1,800 organic clicks last month while GA4 shows 1,200 organic sessions. Take a dental clinic site as the example. The gap is…
Take a dental clinic whose organic clicks look flat month over month, but the number swings a lot depending on whether brand queries are included. Half the clicks are people…
PageSpeed Insights lab scores come from a single synthetic test on a fixed device profile, so they're easy to chase and not always meaningful. The field data (CrUX, the last 28…
Lots of SEOs hit Request Indexing every time they touch a page, and I'm not convinced it does much beyond prompting a recrawl of that one URL. Google describes the tool as being…
Setting up Consent Mode v2 is the easy part. The real argument is about what it buys you. Basic mode blocks tags until a visitor consents, so you get nothing from people who…
Picture a lead gen site with a lot of EU traffic and a consent banner accept rate around 45%. Consent Mode v2 is on basic, so GA4 models the conversions it can't see. The real…
Google limited FAQ rich results to well-known government and health sites in 2023, so for most small business sites the expandable snippet is gone. Some people keep the FAQPage…
Search Console keeps showing a pile of "Crawled, currently not indexed" URLs on a small service site, and I see two camps. One says Google is telling you the page isn't worth…
Say a landing page shows 1,200 clicks in Search Console last month but only 850 organic sessions in GA4. Both numbers are right, they just count different things. GSC counts…
Search Console only keeps 16 months of performance data, and the UI just drops anything older. Most teams only notice when someone asks for a year-over-year comparison on a…
Our blog pulls steady informational traffic, but almost none of those visitors convert on the last click, and someone wants to cut anything that doesn't produce leads in GA4. I…
Referral reports in GA4 are getting noisy, with chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai mixed in with random blogs and directories. I'd build a custom channel group for AI assistant…
Picture a clinic running consent mode v2 where most EU visitors reject the banner. GA4 still shows a healthy conversion count, because modeled conversions fill the gap. But…
Do you strip branded queries before reporting SEO growth out of Search Console, or just report total clicks and impressions? There's a real argument on each side. Branded clicks…
A flat total in Search Console usually hides what SEO is actually doing. Branded queries have strong CTR and position, so they prop up the whole site's numbers while non-brand…
